Muscles Flashcards
Frontal Belly of the Epicranius
Forehead Muscle
Orbicularis oculi
Eye muscle
Zygomaticus
From Zygomatic bone to mouth muscle.
Buccinators
Muscle between Orbicularis oris and Massctor
Orbicularis oris
Mouth muscle
Masseter
Back cheek muscle
Temporalis
Temples/Temporal bone
Sternocleidomastoid
Neck muscle from skull to sternum
Risorius
A layer of muscle in the Buccinator (kind of in the midde)
Deltoid (front)
Shoulder
Pectoralis Major
Chest
Biceps Brachii
Upper Arm
Brachioradialis
Forearm, most lateral muscle
Rectus Abdominis
Abs,
External oblique
Side muscle, most outer muscle
Internal oblique
2nd layer aide muscle
Intercostals
Muscle in-between the ribs
Flexor carpi radialis
Forearm, middle muscle more medial but next to the Brachioradialis.
Deltoid (back)
Shoulder
Trapezius
Back neck muscle
Triceps Brachii
Back of the upper arm
Latissimus dorsi
Back muscle, toward both sides
Adductor longus
Small muscle toward the top of the thigh toward the middle.
Sartorius
Front of Thigh, Goes across the thigh goes from Lateral to medial.
gracilis
Thin muscle along the inside of the leg, to the right of the adductor
rectus femoris
2 branches in the middle of the thigh right under the Sattarius muscle to the knee.
Vastus lateralis
To the left of the rectus femoris of outside of the thigh,
Vastus medialis
Toward the middle of the body or right of the rectus femoris muscle
Fibularis longus
Calf Outside of the calf, running from the outside of the knee to the foot.
Tibialis anterior
Middle of the calf, to the outside of the Tibia
Extensor digitorum longus
Tiny muscle toward the bottom of the calf, between the Tibia and the Tibialis anterior.
Tensor Facia lata
On the hip beginning with the sattarius and moves to the outside of the leg.
Gluteus medius
Butt above/behind the Gluteus maximus, higher towards the back.
Gluteus maximus
Huge muscle on the butt
Adductor magnus
Inside muscle of the back thigh short, attached to the gluteus maximus
Biceps femoris
Muscle in the middle of the thigh coming from the middle of the thigh connecting to the gluteus maximus to the outside of the knee.
Semitendinosus
Muscle next to the biceps femoris on back of thigh, funs from gluteus maximus to the inside part of the knee.
Semimembraneosus
Small muscle on back of thigh, between Gracilis muscle and the Semitendinosus. Toward the outside
Gastrocnemius
Huge muscle on the back of the calf, top muscle.
Soleus
Muscles on the side of the Gastrocnemius muscle on the back of the calf.
Calcaneal Tendon
The heel where the back of your shoes rubs against on your ankle.
Flexor digitorum longus
The 2nd layer on the back of the calf that has 2 branches.
Sarcomere
Contractile unit of muscle
Actin
Thin Myofilament
Myosin
Thick Myofilament
Endomysium
Fine sheath of connective tissue composed of reticular fiber surrounding each muscle fiber.
Perimysium
Fibrous connective tissue that surrounds groups of muscle fibers. (fascicles)
Epimysium
Overcoat of regular connective tissue that surrounds the entire muscle.
Sarclemma
A plasma membrane for a muscle cell
Fascicles
made up of muscles fibers
Myofibril
Has banded appearance. (made up of myofilaments)
Myofilaments
Actin, Myosin (thick and thin filaments)
Tendon
Connects Muscle to bone. Made up of the (Endomysium, perimysium, epimysium)
Tendon
Connects Muscle to bone. Made up of the (Endomysium, perimysium, epimysium)
Sarcoplasm
In myofibril, like cytoplasm.
A bands
Dark band, full length of myosin (thick)
it has a little actin
M line
Protein to which myosin (thick) attaches.
H zone
Just myosin (thick no actin (thin)
I bands`
Light band, from z disks to ends of myosin (thick filament)
Z disc
Network of proteins. Serves as attachment for actin myofilament.
Sarcoplasmic Reticulum (SR)
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum,
Runs longidinally and surrounds myofibril
Stores Ca++ - when muscle is contracting.
