Muscles Flashcards
1
Q
What type of pairs
A
Antagonisitic
2
Q
What are myofibrils and what are they made of
A
Fused cells with sarcoplasm
Have high mitochondria
Made of sarcomeres
3
Q
What are sarcomeres and what are they made of
A
2 proteins
Myosin - thick, surrounded by 6 actin
Actin - thin
4
Q
Sliding filament theory
A
AP stimulates muscle
Causes Ca= to enter
Causes tropomyosin to move and unblock the binding sites on the actin
ADP on myosin heads attaches to these sites forming a bridge
Angle created causing tension
Actin filament pulled along the myosin
ADP is released
ATP then binds, causing shape change
Myosin detaches from actin
ATPase activated by Ca+, hydrolyses ATP into ADP + Pi
Released energy returns head to its original position
