Muscle Tissue Flashcards
Specialized cells that use ATP in the generation of force!
Muscle Tissue
3 Types of muscle tissue
- skeletal
- smooth
- cardiac
A.K.A for skeletal muscle
striated muscle
What does skeletal muscle attach to?
skeleton
some to skin and other muscles
What muscle is compartmentalized by CT?
Skeletal Muscle
Cell structure for skeletal muscle tissue
Cylindrical and can be quite long
Function of Skeletal muslce
Movement and heat production (maintains body temp)
Is skeletal muscles control voluntary or involuntary?
Conscious/voluntary
Where is smooth muscle found?
In walls of hollow tubes (lungs, blood vessels, stomach, intestines)
Is smooth muscles control voluntary or involuntary?
involuntary
Cell structure of smooth muscle
Spindle-shaped
Function of smooth muscle
Constriction of tubes, movement of substances through tube
How does smooth muscle control movement?
When it contracts it squeezed tube, when it relaxes it opens tube peristalsis
What is the cell structure of cardiac muscles?
cylindrical branched, striated fibres that fit tightly together
Function of cardiac muscles
blood flow/propulsion
