Muscle Tissue Flashcards
Three types of muscle tissue
Skeletakl, smooth, Cardiac
Skeletal
Struanted (striped), multinucleated as it is made up from fused myoblasts to make myocites, under voluntary control, moves bones in the skeleton
Cardiac
Striated, but Under involuntary control, Mononucleated, Makes up the walls of the heart, Intercalated discs between cells help propagate wave of contraction so the whole heart wall contracts at once
Smooth
Non-striated, Under involuntary control
*Useful in propelling contents along tubes by peristalsis (rhythmic contractions), Found in gut tube, ureter etc. we cannot control, this action. It is mononucleated
What does Striated mean?
striped in appearance (stacked)
Which types are voluntary and involuntary
Smooth= involuntary
cardiac = involuntary
skeletal = voluntary
which types are striated and non - striated
smooth= non-striated
cardiac=striated
skeletal= striated
