Muscle Physiology Flashcards
Myofibrils are made up of thick and thin filaments. What proteins form these filaments?
Actin = thin filament Myosin = thick filament.
What is the troponin complex of F actin composed of?
G-actin, troponin I, troponin T, troponin C and tropomyosin.
Name an example of where slow-twitch fibres and fast-twitch fibres are located in the body.
slow-twitch = leg muscle.
fast-twitch = eye muscle.
How many motor neurons can a muscle fibre be innervated by?
A single muscle fibre can only be innervated by one motor neuron. (but a single motor neuron can innervate many muscle fibres).
What is myotonia and what does it result from?
Myotonia is the inability to relax voluntary muscle after vigorous effort. It results from the generation of multiple action potentials and so the muscles are in a constant state of contraction.
