Muscle Performance Testing Flashcards
To do a MMT for trunk flexion, the therapist will not be applying any resistance to the patient. The patient will be supine and will be graded on whether or not they can do a sit up and clear their (superior/inferior) angle off of the table.
inferior
When doing MMT for trunk flexion, “I generally recommend starting with 3/5 MMT test position and progressing to more difficult grades if able; regress to less challenging grades instead if appropriate”.
Got it
The grade (3/4) MMT position for trunk flexion is supine with the patient’s arms by their side
3
The grade (4/5) MMT position for flexion of the trunk is the patient supine with their arms folded.
4
The grade (4/5) MMT position for flexion of the trunk is the patient supine with their hands behind their head.
5
A grade (1/2) for MMT trunk flexion is when the patient is only able to lift their head and cervical spine but can’t clear the inferior angle of the scapula.
2
A grade (1/2) for MMT trunk flexion is when the patient has no movement, but a trace muscle contraction.
1
To do a MMT for trunk extension, the therapist will not be applying any resistance to the patient. The patient will be prone and will be graded on whether or not they can lift their sternum and xiphoid process completely off of the table.
Got it
When doing MMT trunk extension, the therapist stabilizes at the (proximal/mid) thigh.
mid
The grade (3/4) MMT trunk extension position is the arms at their side.
3
The grade (3/4) MMT trunk extension position is the arms folded behind their back.
4
The grade (4/5) MMT trunk extension position is the arms behind their head.
5
The grade (2/3) MMT trunk extension is able to move through partial range of motion
2
The grade (1/2) MMT trunk extension is essentially no movement, but trace contractions.
1
MMT Trunk rotation is the same as MMT Trunk Flexion as far as the grades being determined by the position of the patient. In this test the patient is (supine/prone) and will be asked to do an oblique sit up. The therapist will stabilize over the (mid/proximal) thigh and will palpate on the (ipsilateral/contralateral) oblique. So if i am palpating on the patients right side, he will be rotating to the (right/left).
supine; mid; ipsilateral; left
To test lumbar extensor endurance, what test do you use?
Sorensen test -
To test trunk flexion endurance, what does the patient have to do?
Perform a forward plank
To test trunk lateral endurance, what does the patient have to do?
Side plank
