Knee Practical Flashcards
Hip (adductor/abductor) weakness can cause compressive loads on the patellofemoral joint. In weight bearing, this will cause increased hip adduction and internal rotation which can cause a compressive load in the patellofemoral joint.

What muscle length test tests for the flexibility of the rectus femoris?
Prone knee flexion (ely test)
What do you compare the prone knee test to, to assess the flexibility of the rectus femoris?
Supine knee flexion
If there is a difference between the measurements in prone knee flexion and knee flexion in supine what does that mean?
It means that the rectus femoris is tight
If I have problems flexing my knee, what would you test for in terms of ROM, MMT, and muscle length tests?
ROM - Knee flexion. MMT - Knee flexion. Muscle length test - Prone knee flexion.
What are two good stretching exercises to improve knee flexion with sets and reps?
Normal standing quad stretch: 3x30 seconds.
Prone quad stretch with band or added over pressure: 3x30 seconds
What are two good strengthening exercises to improve knee flexion strength with sets and reps?
Leg curls with a big exercise ball: 3x10.
Prone leg curls with resistance: 3x10.
If I have problems extending my knee, what would you test for in terms of ROM, MMT, and muscle length tests?
ROM - knee extension. MMT - Knee extension. Muscle length test: SLR/Hamstring 90/90.
What are two good stretching exercises to improve knee extension with sets and reps?
Supine straight leg raise partner stretching: 3x30 seconds.
Two chair prolonged knee extension with a weight on the knee: 3x20 minutes.
What are two good strengthening exercises to improve knee extension with sets and reps?
Seated knee extension with resistance: 3x10.
Prone knee extension with resistance: 3x10.
