Flexion
Decreases the angle between a joint and brings two bones together
Extension
Increases the angle between a joint and increases the distance between two bones
Rotation
Movement of a bone around its longitudinal axis
Abduction
Moving a limb away from the midline
Adduction
Moving a limb towards the midline
Circumduction
Combination of the four basic movements. The proximal end of a limb stays but the distal end of the limb moves in a circle
Dorsiflexion
Pointing the toes upwards
Plantar flexion
Pointing the toes downwards
Inversion
Turning of the sole medially
Eversion
Turning of the sole laterally
Supination
When the forearm is in anatomical position so the palm is facing upwards. Forearm rotates laterally from normal
Pronation
When the forearm is turned medially so that the palm is facing downwards and the radius is brought over the ulna
