Muscle Histology Flashcards
where are nuclei of skeletal muscle cells located?
peripherally
does skeletal muscle have diads or triads/
triads
where are the triads in skeletal muscle?
at the A and I junction
what is the outer layer of connective tissue surrounding a whole muscle called?
epimysium
what two things does the epimysium help form?
aponeuroses and tendons
what is the name of the connective tissue that surrounds fascicles or multiple muscle cells?
perimysium
what is the name of the connective tissue layer that surrounds single muscle cells?
endomysium
the sarcoplasmic reticulum is technically what type of cell organelle?
modifies smooth ER
what makes up the triads in the skeletal muscle?
two terminal cisternae of sarcoplasmic reticulum and a t tubule
what do triads help the muscle achieve?
uniform contractions
what is tropomodulins role in skeletal muscle?
caps the minus end of each actin filament and prevents overgrowth of them
what does nebulin do for actin?
wraps it and binds it to the Z disc
what makes muscle spindle cells unique from skeletal muscle cells?
they have centrally located nuclei
what is the function of muscle spindle cells?
they serve as stretch receptors for proprioception
what is contained in a muscle spindle cell? why?
8-10 intrafusal muscle fibers…so that it stretches when muscle stretches and can stimulate to send nerve impulses to the CNS
