Muscle Cells Flashcards
How are muscle cells specialised?
Muscle cells are specialised to contract quickly to move bones or to squeeze, therefore causing movement.
What muscle contracts quickly to move bones?
The striated muscle.
What muscle squeezes to cause movement and where are they found?
The smooth muscle- which are found in blood vessels so blood pressure can be varied.
What do myosin and actin do?
Myosin and actin slide over each other, causing the muscle to contract.
What do muscle cells have lots of and why?
Muscle cells have lots of mitochondria to provide energy from respiration for contraction.
What does muscle cells store and what is it used in?
Muscle cells store glycogen that is used in respiration by the mitochondria.
