Muscle and Bone Flashcards
What are the 3 connective tissue of skeletal muscle?
Epimysium - tough outermost later surrounding entire muscle
Perimysium - surrounds bundles of muscle fibres to create fasicicle
Endomysium - surrounds each muscle fibre within the fascicules
How to muscles attach to skeleton?
Tendons
What are the 4 parts of a sarcomere?
A-band - thick myosin filaments
I-band - thin actin filaments
H-band - no overlapping actin region
Z-lines - delimits the extent of sarcomere
How is muscle innervated?
Myofibre received innervation from motor neurone at neuromuscular junction
Features of cardiac tissue?
Controlled by ANS
Cells connected by intercalated discs
Striated
Rich in blood vessels
What are features of cardiac myocytes ?
Mono or bi uncleared cells, nuclei centrally located
Striated
Gap junctions
Lots of mitochondria
Features of smooth muscle?
Controlled by ANS
Can stretch and maintain tension
No striations
Single nucleus
Features of hard connective tissue?
Firm but flexible Bears mechanical stress Cushions Maintained by chondrocytes Supports and assist movement
Features of hyaline cartilage?
Articulating surfaces
A vascular
High tensile strength
Resistant to compression
What is a depression where muscles attach?
Fossa
What is a bump on a bone ?
Tuberosity (largest)
Tubercles (smallest)
Trochanter (femur)
What is a projection of bone?
A process
What is a smooth articulate surface?
Facet
What is a hole in the bone?
Foramen
What is a condyle?
Rounded swelling covered with articulate cartilage
