Muscle Flashcards
What is the origin?
the end of the muscle attached to the more stationary part of the skeleton
What is the insertion?
the end of the muscle attached to the skeletal part which moves
extension
movement that decreases the angle of the joint
flextion
movement that increases the angle of the joint
isotonic contraction
muscle tension remains constant as the muscle changes length (shortens/ lengthens)
Isometric contraction
muscle is prevented from shortening so tension develops at constant muscle length
epimysium (connective tissue)
a sheath of fibrous elastic tissue surrounding a muscle
perimysium
the sheath of connective tissue surrounding a bundle of muscle fibres
fasicles
a bundle of structures, such as nerve or muscle fibres or conducting vessels in plants.
sacromere
a structural unit of a myofibril in striated muscle, consisting of a dark band and the nearer half of each adjacent pale band.
thin filament
actin, tropomyosin and troponin
thick filament
myosin
