Why has the role of the Father changed in recent times?
A
It is now not just the Father who work and so with paternity leave they play a more active and direct role
2
Q
What are the three theories as to the role of the Father?
A
- They don’t have one: they are not biologically equipped to form an attachment due to a lack of oestrogen
- They provide the role of a playmate as opposed to a caregiver
- They can form emotional and caregiving attachments with their child
3
Q
Evaluation of the role of the father?
A
- Ability to attach is related to marital intimacy: research found that if the father is close with the mother they will form a strong bond with the child
- Research has found that interactions with fathers are more exciting compared to mothers being more nurturing supporting the idea that the father preforms the role of a play mate
