What are the three theories as to the role of the Father?

A
  • They don’t have one: they are not biologically equipped to form an attachment due to a lack of oestrogen

Q

Evaluation of the role of the father?

A
  • Ability to attach is related to marital intimacy: research found that if the father is close with the mother they will form a strong bond with the child
  • Research has found that interactions with fathers are more exciting compared to mothers being more nurturing supporting the idea that the father preforms the role of a play mate
