the theory that the human memory has three separate modes made of the sensory memory, short term memory and long term memory

when the STM reaches maximum capacity so no more information can be taken in
what is decay in the STM?
when the information needs to be rehearsed within 30 seconds, otherwise it will be forgotten
what is decay in the LTM?
where information decay due to the lack of use
what is interference?
something that interrupts the rehearsal loop, causing distortion and gaps in memories
what is maintenance rehearsal?
the rehearsal and repetition of information
what is elabourate rehearsal?
a type of memory rehearsal that is useful in transferring information into long-term memory
what are retrieval cues?
events or situations that cause you to remember a memory
what is the primary effect?
where participants typically recall the first words of a lost well
what is the asymptote?
where the middle section of a list is remembered less well than the beginning and the end
what is the recency effect?
where participants usually recall items from the end of a list more correctly than the other items
