MT2: Week 7 Flashcards
prognosis study?
-Literature review
Kids had better outcomes if they had verbal communication before the age of 5 and had a high IQ
What did the first study find ??
-Found frequency of initiations was linked with best outcomes (kids who talked and initiated convos had better outcomes)
What were the results of study 2?
- taught initiations(question asking, attention bids, requests for help)
- number of initiations increased after intervention, better outcomes
- generalizes and there is collateral gains
What are some examples of initiations ?
- what is it?
- where is it?
- whose is it?
- what’s happening?
- what happened?
- Look!
- Help!
Why are initiations important ?
- increased functions of language
- increased social interactions
- learned targets as a result of the intervention
- generalization to home and school
What is the biggest predictor of good long term outcomes?
- presence of verbal communication before the age of 5
- high IQ
What is the history of socialization?
- isolation: kids were removed from families completely isolated
- segregation: although they were allowed back in community, segregated in different schools from peers
- inclusion w/ support: allowed around peers for part of day with full time support person

Studies that collected parent measures reported positive
findings for parent acceptability, satisfaction, and
improvement in parent implementation of treatment. Infant
gains in social-communicative and developmental skills
were observed following intervention in most of the
reviewed studies, while comparisons with treatment-asusual
control groups elucidate the need for further research
Is intervention for infants beneficial ?
yes, gains in social communicative and developmental skills
what does cognitive behavrioal modification and cognitive scripts and social stories use?
priming
what does cognitive behvarioal modification use?
self-management
