• Reduce pain & stiffness • Maintain/improve functional capacity including ability to work • Prevention of progression of joint damage • Improve quality of life

paracetamol still 1st line, but awaiting

• Topical NSAIDs
• Oral NSAIDs/Opioids
• Adjuncts e.g. capsaicin, intra-articular steroids
what risks do you have to consider when prescribing NSAIDS in OA- what are the risks?
- Cardiovascular risk
- GI risk
- Renal risk
what else would you need to consider for surgery ?
– Medications in the peri-op period
– VTE prophylaxis
– Post-op Analgesia
– Supportive therapies e.g. anti-emetics/laxatives
