Coxsackie virus A16
What are the features of hand, foot and mouth disease?
Younger than 5
Fever
Vesicles on hands and feet
Painful, oral ulcers -> feeding difficulty
May have maculopapular rash on buttocks
What is the cause of erythema infectiosum?
Parvovirus B19
What are the features of erythema infectiosum?
Fever, headache
Slapped cheek rash, spreading to arms
What is the cause of Scarlet Fever?
GABHS
(Strep pyogenes)
What are the features of Scarlet Fever?
Fever, sore throat, sand paper rash, sparing around the mouth, strawberry tongue
What are the features of measles?
Fever, cough, coryza
Conjuctivitis
Koplik spots on oral mucosa
Followed by maculopapular rash which starts behind the ears before spreading over the body
What are the features of rubella?
Pinkish maculopapular rash begins on face and then typically spreads down the body
What are the key features of roseola infantum?
HHV-6
High fever lasting 3-5 days, which settles followed by onset of maculopapuplar rash
