What is the Ann Arbor staging system?
Stage 1 lymphoma in a single node region
Stage 2 two separate regions on one side of the diaphragm
Stage 3 spread to both sides of hand diaphragm
Stage 4 diffuse of disseminated involvement of one or more extra-lymphatic organs such as bone marrow or lungs
A - absence of B symptoms
B - B symptoms present
What is the most common type of high grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Diffuse large B cell lymphoma
What is the most common type of low grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Follicular lymphoma
What are the symptoms of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Painless lymphadenopathy
Hepatosplenomegaly
B symptoms
Bone marrow involvement -> cytopenia
What is the genetic abnormality in Burkitt’s lymphoma?
Transformation t(8:14)
What are Reed-Sternberg cells?
Multinucleated giant cells derived from B lymphocytes found in Hodgkin’s lymphoma
What are the risk factors for Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
EBV
Increasing age
What is the presentation of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Painless lymphadenopathy - typically cervical/supraclavicular
B symptoms
Alcohol-induced pain
What are the B symptoms in lymphoma?
and what is their significance?
Associated with a poor prognosis.
Night sweats
Fever
Weight loss
