MSK- Medial Thigh Flashcards
What nerve innervates the medial thigh?
Obturator nerve
L2,3,4
A,B,C?
A-Adductor longus
B-Adductor brevis
C-Adductor magnus
All adduct
Adductor part of magnus does hip flexion and hamstring does hip extension
D,E?
D-Gracillis
Obturator nerve
E- Pectineus
Femoral and obturator nerve innervation
Both adduct the thigh, pectineus also flexes the hip
F?
Adductor hiatus
Gap in the adductor magnus muscle
Transmits the adductor canal
What is the purpose of the adductor canal?
Transmits structures going from anterior to posterior thigh
Transmits femoral artery, femoral vein, nerve to the vastus medialis and saphenous nerve
Femoral artery and vein exits the canal, now popliteal artery and vein
What are the borders of the adductor canal?
Anteromedial
Sartorius
Lateral
Vastus medialis
Posterior
Adductor longus
Adductor magnus
What is groin strain?
Proximal part of adductors in medial thigh strained/torn due to explosive movements
RICE
What is adductor canal compression syndrome?
Entrapment of the neurovascular bundle within the adductor canal
Caused by hypertrophy of vastus medialis
Young males
Presents with claudication symptoms due to femoral artery occlusion or neurological symptoms due to entrapment of the saphenous nerve.
