Don’t learn each individual bacteria, point of this deck is to be able to describe what you’re seeing and what antibiotics you would give
You will be able to work out what bacteria it is in relation to the history
Describe the gram stain
Gram positive
Staphylococci
This is Staphylococcus Aureus
Give flucloxacillin, if allergic give doxycyclin, if severe vancomycin
Describe
Gram positive
Diplococci
Streptococcus not staphylococcus as they are in chains and not bundles
Streptococcus pneumoniae
Give doxycyclin
Describe
Gram positive
Streptococcus, long chains rather than bundles
Streptococcus pyogenes
Penicillin V, doxycyclin or tetracyclin if allergic

Gram positive
Bacilli
Listeria monocytogenes
Vancomycin as its Gpos, not penicllin as its a bacilli

Rods- bacilli
Clostroides difficile
Vancomycin as its Gpos, not penicllin as its a bacilli
Oral
Gram negative
Cocci
Neisseria meningitidis
Ceftriaxone, good activity against Gnegs and broad spetrcum

Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Gram negative
Rod shaped-bacilli
E.coli
Nitrofurantoin first line, trimethoprim first line if it’s complicated e.g. pregnant woman or male
Gram negative
Rod shaped- cocobacilli
Haemophilus influenzae
Gram negative
Rods- so bacilli
Salmonella typhi
Ciprofloxacin, increases risk of C.dif may need vancomycin at the same time just incase
