What does GALS screening questions mean?
Gait, arm, legs and spine questions
What are some orthopaedic symptoms?
Pain, dysesthesia, weakness - feeling
Stiffness, reduced RoM, limp, collapsing, and crepitus - moving
Swelling deformity, wasting, shortening, and discolouration - look
What are the red flags suggesting serious pathology?
Severe and worsening pain, night pain disturbing sleep, non-mechanical pain, general malaise, febrile, rigors, unexplained weight loss, anorexia, night sweats, and history of malignant disease
What does MISTI THREAD stand for?
MI, Stroke, Thrombosis, Icterus (jaundice), TB, Hypertension, Rheumatic fever, Epilepsy, Asthma, and Diabetes
What allergies are important to be known?
Previous penicillin, iodine, general anaesthetic, latex, and Elastoplast
What does valgus and varus mean?
Valgus - distal part moves away from midline
Varus - moves towards midline
What is the name of the fingers?
Thumb, index, long/ middle, ring, and small
What is the volar aspect of the hand?
Dorsal aspect
What are the examination steps for MSK?
Look - skin, wounds, colour, swelling, deformity
Move - active, passive and special tests
Feel - temp., tenderness, sensation
