Complete joint disruption
What is subluxation?
Partial dislocation - not fully out of joint
How is dislocations diagnosed?
Clinical and radiological diagnosis
Associated injuries, soft tissue, MSK and multi-system
What is the common direction of a shoulder dislocation?
Anterior and posterior
What is the deformity seen for a shoulder dislocation?
Squared off and locked in internal rotation
What is the common direction of elbow dislocation?
Posterior
What is the deformity seen for elbow dislocation?
Olecranon prominent posteriorly
What is the common direction of hip dislocation?
Posterior
What is the deformity seen for hip dislocation?
Leg short, flexed, internal rotation and adduction
What is the common direction for knee dislocation?
Anteroposterior
What is the deformity seen for knee dislocation?
Loss of normal contour and extended
What is the common direction of ankle dislocation?
Lateral more common
What is the deformity seen for ankle dislocation?
Medial malleolus prominent and skin stretched (be careful of necrosis)
Externally rotated
What is the common direction of subtalar joint dislocation?
Lateral more common
