MSK-Histology Flashcards
What are the three types of muscle
Skeletal/voluntary
Cardiac
Smooth
Describe skeletal muscle
Striated, unbranched, multinucleated
What are muscle fibres grouped into?
Bundles called fascicles
What is an epimysium
Connective tissue that surrounds the whole muscle
What is a perimysium
Connective tissue around single fascicle
What is a endomysium
Connective tissue around single muscle fibre
What is a sarcomere
A unit of contraction, placed end to end to form myofibrils. A sarcomere is from one Z line to the next
What are chondrocytes?
Cells found in the cartilage that live in an extracellular space called a lacuna.
What makes the diaphysis of the bone?
Outer shell of dense cortical bone making up the shaft
What makes up the epiphysis’s of the bone?
Cancellous or trabecular bone
Describe trabecular bone?
Has osteocytes and is thin, lack haversian canals
