Ms Rex Flashcards
Whats the passage of air in the body
Nose Pharynx Larynx Trachea Brochi Bronchinoles Alveloi
What happens during inspiration
Inspiration is about breathing in and during this the intercoastal muscles increase the volume of the chest cavity
What does air do in the alveoli
The air diffuses from high conc to low conc, meaning that the oxygen in the alveoli comes into the blood and the carbon dioxide goes from the blood into the alveoli
Features that assist gas exchange in alveoli
Large surface area Thin walls Short diffusion distance Lots of capillaries Large blood supply Movement of gas from high to low
Tidal volume
The amount of air inhaled and exhaled in a normal breath
Minuite ventilation
The volume of air inhaled and exhaled per minute
Inspiratory reserve volume
Volume of air that can forcibly be inspired afetr a normal breath
Expiritory reserve volume
Volume of air that can be expired after a normla breath
Residual volume
The amount of air that always remains constant in the lungs to prevent hem from collapsing
How does exercise effect the lables of the spiatrace graph
Tidal volume: will increase Inspiratory reserve volume: decrease Expiratory reserve volume: slight decrease Residual volume: remains constant Minuite ventilation: big increase
