Manufacturing Planning and
Control
Manufacturing Planning and Control (MPC)
is
concerned with planning and controlling all
aspects of
manufacturing from managing
materials and scheduling machines and people
to coordinating suppliers and planning
shipments to customers.
An
MPC system
provides
information and support for managers to perform MPC activities. MPC is also referred to as Manufacturing Resource Planning or MRPII .
MPC is responsible for determining:
The appropriate amount of capacity
(including supplier capacity) to meet the
market demands of the future.
The appropriate mix of human resource
capabilities, technology, and geographical
locations.
The fundamental issue is matching supply
and demand in terms of both volume and
product mix
Planning for the right quantities of material at the right time and place
Maintaining
appropriate
inventory
levels
Providing delivery information to customers
Communicat- ing material requirements to suppliers
Planning for employment levels, overtime, and subcontract- ing needs, etc.
Short-term Activities
Detailed scheduling of resources to meet production requirements. MPC must track the use of resources, monitor execution results, and provide information to managers, customers, and suppliers.

ERP
(Enterprise Resource Planning) system. An ERP system is an enterprise-wide information system that integrates all the business functions such as operations, sales, finance, and human resources .
