Different types of Air Support Operations
DAA
Direct Support (OTC/AC in control) - MPA is under the tactical control of the OTC
Area Operations (Aircraft Commander in Command/ tactical control)
- MPA protects maritime forces scheduled to enter the area or
- Provide defence in depth to distant forces
Associated Support
- MPA operates independently of the force
- Asked for contact info/intelligence
What are the types of RAINFORM?
Form Green = task assignment for aircraft ops (airmove departure)
Form Purple = immediate report of A/C sortie results (what they’ve done)
Before an aircraft joins a force it will leave its shore authority with specific Transmit Instructions;
- TRANS ALFA = a/c does not report or investigate, adhere to scheduled times
- TRANS BRAVO = report enemy contacts to OTC but doesn’t investigate
- TRANS CHARLIE = identifies and reports enemy contacts, destroys submarines, shadow ships, get ID/course an speed of aircraft
Name and describe the different Identification Procedures for an MPA
Alfa - Squawk ident
Bravo - switch to s/by for one minute
Charlie (wartime only) - switch for two mins to the wartime mode/code allocated
Delta - carry out 360 degree orbit
Echo - turn 90 degrees left or right, hold new heading for 1 min, return to corridor at 45 degrees
Foxtrot - carry out encoded vector

- If the unit is out of communications with the MPA for one hour, initiate overdue action
