Name the distance/range reporting?

A
  • 5 miles or greater - report as Distance in Miles e.g. ‘Distance 6’ (6nm)
  • Less than 5 miles - report as hundreds of yards e.g. ‘Range 35’ (3,500 yards)

The rules of DATUM SOPs

A
  1. DATUMS are removed when a unit gains contact (unless PWO wants it to remain on system)
  2. DATUMS/contact retains same force track number when unit loses or gains contact
  3. A contact in the TDZ is prosecuted despite classification

When are Flash Reports used?

A

Standard = to get attention on a voice circuit

Break In = when you need to pass vital information is greater than current transmissions being made

A

Confidence 1 - Doubtful

Confidence 2 - Possible

Confidence 3 - Probable

What’s involved in Subsurface Investigate/Chart Check?

A
  1. Dipper gains contact controller inputs position into Command system, initiating subsurface investigation immediately.
  2. Command Open Line - “All positions AC, Subsurface Investigate, bearing, range/distance”.
  3. Once completed controller reports findings to the Dipper saying Chart positive or Chart negative.

What is a Look/Watch report?

A

Localising an aircraft’s search for a submarine. Unit in contact passes position of contact relative to aircraft.

A

Allows dipping aircraft to be formed up on ships in formation Yankee to allow sweep of an area utilising all sonars.

Explain the “On Top” Procedures

A

If A/C needs to indicate position of anything visual it will utilise;

Radar On-Top

  • Ship holds A/C on radar
  • A/C overflies position calling NOW NOW NOW
  • On third NOW A/C marks position

Reverse Radar On -Top

  • Aircraft holds ship on radar, overflies position
  • On third NOW A/C plots range and bearing of ship passing to controller
  • Controller works out range and bearing to put into Command System.

Visual On-Top

  • No radar available
  • A/C flies over position and reports NOW NOW NOW
  • On third NOW OOW plots visual bearing and estimated range.
