Moving Pictures Flashcards
frames per second (fps)
24 fps or greater allows human eye to perceive an illusion of continuous movement
TV vs. computer
tv images composed of interlaced images (tv pixels rectangular), computer images are reproduced as full images and the pixels are quadratic
SD (Standard Def)
a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. The two common SDTV signal types are 576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution, derived from the European-developed PAL and SECAM systems, and 480i based on the American NTSC system.
HD (High Def)
two image formats: 720p and 1080i.
720p: resolution is 1280x720px, so the full frame is always transmitted. āpā stands for progressive
1080i: image is created with the aid of two successive semi-images: interlaced technique
lossless compression
a class of data compression algorithms that allows the original data to be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed data
lossy compression
permits reconstruction only of an approximation of the original data, though usually with greatly improved compression rates (and therefore reduced media sizes
