Movements Flashcards
1
Q
Flexion
A
Forward movement of a limb. Typically a decrease in joint angle between the two bone segments.
2
Q
Extension
A
Return to anatomical position from a flexed position. Increased joint angle between bone segments.
3
Q
Hyperextension
A
Extension posteriorly beyond the anatomical position. Used when the extension is beyond the normal range of movement .
4
Q
Abduction
A
Bone moving away from midline in the frontal plane
5
Q
Adduction
A
Bone moving towards the midline in the frontal plane
6
Q
Rotation
A
Movement around axis of bone. Can be internal (anterior part rotates towards the midline) or external (anterior part away from midline).
7
Q
Circumduction
A
Combinations of all fundamental motions to create a circle with a segment.
