Movement disorders Flashcards

1
Q

What path = MORE movement when it’s stimulated? (how)

A

Direct

(Substantia Nigra is ON
= Subnigra to deactivate the antagonist to cause movements.)

2
Q

What path = LESS movement when it’s stimulated?

A

Indirect

(substantia Nigra is OFF
= subthalamic glutamate agonism activation, turning the antagonists off at thalamic nuclei.)

Q

Parkinson What is the treatment?

A

No Cure

L-Dopa - precursor to DA

1-2hr DOA

Could give Dopamine Agonist… but has side effects

16
Q

Huntington’s (receptors & progression)

A

GABA & ACh

lose indirect Stop first.
then lose direct GO function.

17
Q

Huntington’s (Treatment)

A

Drugs suck at working.

Remove DA (reserpine)
Block receptors (Haldol)
PD & Hunt... your screwed, CHOREA
18
Q

Wilson’s disease (receptors & progression)

A

Copper metabolism
Liver damage and neuron in basal ganglia=bizar movements
Untreated=DEATH.

19
Q

Wilson’s disease (Treatment)

A

Penicillamine OR Trientine (chelation)

20
Q

Restless leg syndrome (treatments)

A

DA agonist
Ropinirole
&
Pramipexole
