Movement analysis Flashcards
movement analysis
an observation of movement
- at least perform an informal analysis on everyone
Purpose of movement analysis
1) excellent screening tool
- systems involved?
- what tests to run?(direction)
2) Assess quality of movement
- ability to exist, but not normal
3) basis for writing function goal
ability to perform a function movement
dependent on availability of resources
- ROM, strength, endurance, neuromotor coordination, ability to react to stimuli, sensation - necessary knee flexion for walking is 60 degrees
measures in terms of availability of resources
use to write goals
1) strength(difficult to quantify) vs. weakness(cannot quantify)
2) endurance(distance, time, repetitions) vs. fatigue(cannot quantify)
3) ROM(always increase) vs. contracture
4) speed(velocity) vs. time required to walk a distance
5) stability vs. sway
- pain is not a resource but can use to write goals
- ex: run w/o pain
lack of performance resources
leads to functional limitation or disability
- older adults have little reserve in resources, so a small decrease can limit ability
resources necessary for movement
1) central processing
- cognition, reaction time
2) neurological
- sensory, muscle strength, balance, reflexes
- longer rehab time
3) musculoskeletal
- ROM, muscle strength, endurance
- more predictable for rehab time
4) cardiopulmonary
- respiratory, blood delivery
“normal” movement
wide range of “normal”
- is it normal variation of specific movement?
functional movement
most efficient way to accomplish task
- may not be normal
impairments contributing to abnormal movement and can I change them
if muscle weakness, can probably change unless neurological
- consider safeness
