What are the seven functions of the skeleton?
Support
Protection
Movement
Shape
Muscle attachment
Mineral storage
Blood cell reproduction
What are the 11 different movements that can occur at a joint?
Flexion
Extension
Abduction
Adduction
Dorsey flexion
Plantar flexion
Circumduction
Medial rotation
Lateral rotation
Horizontal flexion
Horizontal extension
Give the joint movement, the agonist muscle, the antagonist muscle and a sporting example of the elbow joint.
The joint movement is flexion and extension
The agonist muscle for flexion is the bicep brachii and the agonist for extension is the tricep brachii.
The antagonist for flexion is the tricep brachii and the antagonist for extension is the bicep brachii.
Example of flexion would be the downward phase of a press up and an example of extension would be the upwards phase of a press up
What are the two types of contraction?
Isotonic and isometric
What is meant by isometric contraction?
The muscle is not changing the length while exerting a force.
What is meant by isotonic contraction and what are the two types?
The muscle is changing the length while exerting a force.
Concentric and eccentric isotonic contraction.
What is concentric isotonic?
Muscle shorten under tension and resistance.
What is eccentric isotonic contraction?
Muscle lengthens.
