Movement Flashcards
Flexion
Decreasing the angle between two body parts
Extension
Increasing the angle between two body parts
Abduction
Is a movement away from the midline
Abduction of the arm raised the arm out to the side of the body
Feet & hand midline is that feet or hand so abducting the fingers spreads them out.
Adduction
Movement towards the midline
Adduction of the hip squeezes the legs together
Inversion
Movement that occurs at the ankle joint referring to the rotation of the foot around the long axis
Involved lateral rotation of the foot such that the sole points medially
Eversion
Movement which occur at the ankle joint referring to the rotation of the foot around its long axis
Involves the medial rotation of the foot such that the sole points laterally
Internal rotation
Describes movement of the limbs around their long axis
Also known as medial rotation is a rotational movement towards the midline
External rotation
Aka lateral rotation
Rotating movements away from the midline
Elevation
Refers to movement in a superior direction
Shoulder shrug
Depression

Dorsiflexion
Describe movements at the ankle so the foot points more superiorly
Rarely used to describe the hand.. just use extension to describe this action of the wrist
Plantarflexion
Refers to extension at the ankle,so that the foot points inferiorly
The term for the hand is palmarflexion
Circumduction
Defined as conical movement of a limb extending from the joint at which the movement is controlled
It is sometimes talked about as a circular motion, but is more accurately comical due to the cone formed by the moving limb
