effect of mountains on rainfall
mountains can:
1) bring rain to some areas by forcing the air to rise and release moisture content as rain
2) shelter other areas from storms preventing them from receiving as much rain
shadow area
an area of land that doesn’t receive as much rain due to mountains

1) the mountains force the warm, moist air to rise
2) the effect of altitude cools the air and releases rain
3) drier air brings less rain to the areas to the west of the mountains.
