the radiation from the sun can only start to heat the land or seas when they reach the earth’s surface. once the land and oceans are heated they can transfer heat to the air above. air molecules concentrated in the air close to earth’s surface so when the sun’s heat heats up the molecules, they start to rise. the higher the molecules rise, the less heat is available to them and the colder the temperature is.
