What are the main motor milestones in infancy?
Lifting head-> 1st month
Sitting without support-> 5-8 months
Stand with support->5-10 months
Stand alone-> 10-14 months
Walk alone-> 11-14 months
Why is crawling not a milestones?
Not universal (usually between 7-8 months)
–>healthy baby never crawls
Why does a baby might skip crawling?
Not enough opportunities
Hypersensitivity to floor
Upper body weakness
What are the different factors responsible for motor development in infants?
Brain maturation
Perceptual skills
Motivation
Balance and posture control
physical strength
Change in body proportion and weight
Explain the role of weight change in motor development?
The stepping reflex disappear at 2 months and reappears at 7-12 months
->disappear because body weight increases faster than leg muscles
What does reaching lead to for an infant?
-language development
-3D perception
-Understand and predict actions of others
What does self-locomotion lead to for an infant?
-development of language
-expansion of the visual world
-perception of slope
What is scale errors?
Attempt to perform an action on a miniature object that is impossible due to the huge difference in size between the child and the object
When does scale error disappear?
Around 2yo
