Q

what are childrens milestones called. how do they get there

A

called attractors. doesnt neccessairly have to be through one route to get there can be through many routes e.g. curiostiy or trial and error

Q

what is the stepping reflex. why does it disappear

A

coordinated behaviour resembling walking when you hold baby while it tries to walk. disappears around 2 months due to rapid weight gain. but can still happen when babys are lying down suggesting its not lost neurologically.

Q

whats important about sitting indepednently. what does it lead to

A

big milestone. allows for reaching to occur giving a whole new dynamic to babys life and experience. leads to figure/ground assignment. 6-10 months.

Q

what is figure/ground assignment

A

helps baby understand depth and identify objects and plan reaching before it does it. infants need this so they can guide attention and eye movement and learning. they’re reaching gets more precise over time

Q

what are sticky mittens

A

given to kids who struggle with reaching. they are gloves with velcro on them and the toy has velcro too. leads to significant reaching improvement for baby.

Q

what is the A not B task. who did it

A

Piaget. you hide a toy behind A the infant finds it and repeats it 6x. you then hide toy behind B the child may watch you do it but itll still go to A. Piaget said this is because kids dont have object permenance

Q

what does DST say about Piaget’s object permanence theory

A

states that its because of a childs motor memory rather than object permenance. e.g. if you stand child up between changing the object from A to B then child will get it right bcos its not the same motor movement.
