What is motivation?
A
goal directed activity that is instigated and sustained. it energizes, directs, and sustains

What are some indicators of motivation?
A
- choice of tasks
- delay in onset of activity/work
- intensity of activity/work
- persistance
- why they are doing the activity/work

What is Extrinsic motivation?
A
- involvement as a means to an end
- affected by out side factors, get something in return

What is Intrinsic motivation?
A
- involvement for one’s own sake
- internal factors

What do extrinsic motivators do to intrinsic?
A
diminish its value and the joy becomes a job

What re the Big C’s of Intrinsic motivation?
A
1) challenge: work to accomplish something before others
2) control: allow students to have some ownership over work
3) curiosity: engage C to satisfy need to know
4) creativity/fantasy: allow students to create own problem/fantasy

How should students be rewarded?
A
- weakest reward to strengthen behavior
- avoid rewards as incentives
- higher in early learning&reduce with progression
- set standards within student’s grasp
