What is the instinct approach?

A

Believes that humans and animals are born with innate tendencies or biological forces that determine behaviour

These instincts are very essential for survival thus those instincts instincts provide the energy that directs behaviours in appropriate directions

What is the incentive approach?

A

Suggests that motivation stems from the desires to obtain valued external goals or incentive
Its appeal has little or nothing to do with internal drives or maintenance of arousal
In this view any desirable properties of external stimuli (grades, money, affection, food) account for a person’s motivation
