What are the emotional characteristics?
Shyness, anxiety, extraversion and alcoholism
What are the four principles of Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development?
Sensorimotor stage, preoperational stage, concrete operational stage, formal operational stage
What is the sensorimotor stage?
Age birth to 2 years
Infants interact and understand about the environment using sensory motor, in this stage infants do not understand object permanence
What is the preoperational stage?
Age 2 to 7 years
Children learn to use symbols, such as words and mental images to solve simple problems
Major accomplishment is development of language
Children in this period are unable to understand conservation
What is the concrete operational stage?
Age 7 to 11 years
Have the ability to think logically and deductively, children are able to conserve and accept ideas from others
Children can organize objects into hierarchy, classification
Anyhow children in this stage are not able to solve problems based on verbal information
What is the formal operational stage?
Age 12 onwards
Child becomes capable of abstract thinking, complex reasoning and hypothesis testing.
They are able to review several possible alternatives or hypotheses in a problem solving solution
