motion flashcards
What’s friction
A force between surfaces that slow objects down or stops them from moving
What is force
Force is any Push or pull that makes an object start moving or stop, moving, speed up, slow down or change derection
If you rub your hands together it gets hot because
Friction
What’s inertia
The tendency of an object to remain in motion or to stay at rest unless acted upon by a outside force
What’s work
The use of a force to move a object a certain distance
What’s energy
The ability to do work either to make an object move or to change matter
What’s potential energy
Energy that’s stored or wating to be used giving the object future energy
Whats stored energy called
Potential energy
What’s kinetic energy
The e ergo an object has because it’s moving
What’s the 6 different forms of energy?
Chemical, electrical, thermal, nuclear, light, mechanical,
What is mechanical energy?
The energy of motion.
Examples are wind, water in a waterfall, a jet plane speeding through the air. Even sound is considered mechanical energy.
What is thermal energy?
The energy from heat. Objects that are hot contain thermal energy.
What is chemical energy?
The energy your body uses to move is chemical energy. It is stored in the particles that make up food, fuel, and other types of matter.
What is electrical energy?
Electrical energy is related to the movement of charged particles.
What is radiant energy?
Light, weather it comes from the sun or a light bulb
What is nuclear energy?
Energy that comes from radioactive objects
Can energy change from one form to aonther?
Yes
What are our most useful forms of energy?
Sunlight, fuel of all types, wind, and water
What’s six simple types of machines
Lever pulley wheel and axle inclined plane wedge and screw
What’s a simple Machine
A machine with few moving parts making it easier to do work
This simple machine is a stiff bar that moves about a fixed point fulcrum it’s used to push pull
A lever example shovel
This simple machine is a wheel that has a rope wrapped around it it’s used to lift heavy objects by changing direction or amount of force.
Pulley
This simple machine consists of a rod attached to a wheel it makes it easier to move or turn things
Wheel and axel
This simple machine is a flat surface that’s raised so one end is higher that the other it helps move heavy objects up or down
Inclined plane
This simple machine is Wide at one end and pointed at he other to help cut or split other objects
A wedge
This simple machine is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder or a cone it’s used to hold objects together
A screw
What’s a compound machine
A combination of two or more simple machines
