What are maps used for
They help you navigate from one place to another or see areas of importance/ concerns
What’s a map
A picture representation of land or sea showing physical features, cities, roads, etc
What’s a continent
Large land masses. The seven are north America, south America,
Europe, Antarctica, Oceania, Australia, Africa, Asia.
What’s a ocean
A very large expanse of sea. There Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern
What is a compass rose
A symbol on a map that tells the cardinal and intermediate directions
What’s cardinal directions
North east west south
What’s the intermediate directions
Northwest southwest northeast southeast
What’s the prime meridian
The dividing line that separates the eastern and western hemispheres
What’s the equator
The imaginary line that separates the northern and southern hemispheres
What’s latitude and longitude
A geographic coordinate system that helps create locations on earth through specified numbers. The coordinates are chosen based on degrees of longitude (north /south) and degrees of latitude (east /west)
What’s a hemisphere
It’s how earths divided. There’s four northern southern eastern and western
What’s a scale
The relationship between actual size the picture or model size it’s made by ratios
What’s a global positioning system
Also known as a gps it’s a electronic device that helps find locations on earth using longitude
What’s a product map
It’s a map that shows the things that are grown raised or mined in a specific area
What’s a language map
It’s a map that shows regions and languages of that region
