MOTION Flashcards
Define distance
DISTANCE = SPEED X TIME
The length of the path a body follows from start to finish.
Define displacement
The length of a straight line joining the start and finishing positions.
Define speed
SPEED = DISTANCE / TIME
Speed is the rate of change of distance
Define velocity
VELOCITY = DISPLACEMENT / TIME
The rate of change in displacement
DEFINE ACCELERATION
CHANGE IN VELO / TIME
The rate of velocity change.
DEFINE ANGULAR MOMENTUM
AM = ANGULAR VELOCITY X MOMENT OF INERTA
The quantity of rotation a body possesses
DEFINE MOMENT OF INERTIA
Relates to the distribution of mass around the axis in a spinning system.
Q HOW CAN A GYMNAST ALTER THEIR RATE OF SPIN.
- Conservation of AM - depends on both the speed of rotation and the distance
- AM remains constant during rotation
- The moment of inertia is related to the distribution of mass around an axis in a spinning system.
- The further the mass is from the axis, the greater the moment of inertia and therefore the harder it is to spin
= Hence why its easier to perform aa tuck than a layout
DEFINE PROJECTILE MOTION
The movement of a body through the air following a curved flight path under the forces of gravity.
WHAT IS THE URH WHEN RELEASE AND LANDING HEIGHT ARE THE SAME
45
RELEASE HEIGHT < LANDING HEIGHT
Greater than 45
RELEASE HEIGHT > LANDING HEIGHT
Lower than 45
WHAT ARE THE OTHER TWO FACTORS THAT EFFECT DISTANCE
Speed of Release
Height of Release
