Q

Write the method for the car and slope practical.

A
  1. Set up the equipment as shown.
  2. Decide on a starting point for the car and mark it on the ramp.
  3. Use the ruler to adjust to the ramp, to the 1st highest at this point.
  4. Measure the distance between the starting point and the end of the ramp or another marked point.
  5. Release the car and time it between the two points. Repeat until reliable data is obtained.
  6. Adjust the height and repeat the experiment.

Q

What are velocity-time graphs?

A

These graphs can be used to determine if an object is accelerating, moving at constant speed, or decelerating.

A straight slanted line pointed up means the object is accelerating.
A straight slanted line pointed down means the object is decelerating.
A straight flat line means the object is moving at a constant speed

The gradient gives the acceleration
The area under gives displacement (distance)

Q

How do you calculate the rate of change of speed? (Acceleration or deceleration)

A

Final speed - initial speed

Time

The gradient of a speed time graph also gives us the rate of change of speed.

Q

What is a displacement-time graph?

A

A graph used to tell if the object is moving forwards, or stopping.

If a straight line points upwards the object is moving.
If a straight line is flat the object has stopped.
If the line is curved the object is accelerating or decelerating

The gradient is the velocity
