Q

How do you measure volume?

A

LxBxH

Or in the case of an irregular object, lower it into a measure if cylinder and measure the amount of water is displaced.

Q

Describe the experiment that finds the density of a regular object.

A
  1. Find the mass of the object using a digital balance
  2. Use a ruler to measure the length, height and width of a cuboid
  3. Calculate the volume using V=LxBxH (cm3)
  4. Calculate the density using D= mass/volume
  5. Repeat for other materials.

Q

Describe the experiment that finds the density of a liquid.

A
  1. Find the mass of an empty dry cylinder
  2. Add a singular, measurable amount of liquid
  3. Find the mass of a cylinder + liquid
  4. Measure the volume; eye level with miniscus
  5. Calculate the mass of the liquid by subtracting the cylinders dry mass
  6. Calculate the density, D= Liquid mass/Liquid volume

Q

Describe the experiment that finds the volume of a irregular object.

A
  1. Fill a 50ml measuring cylinder with 30ml of water
  2. Place it on a digital balance and record the mass
  3. Record the exact volume of the water
  4. Add a marble and record the new mass and volume.
  5. Continue to add marbles until 7 results are obtained.
  6. Calculate the volume and mass of the marbles alone.
