Q

What is gravitational potential energy?

A

This is the energy an object has because of its position in a gravitational field. The amount of gravitational potential energy an object has depends on its mass, its height above the ground and the strength of the gravitational field.

Q

What is kinetic energy?

A

The energy an object has because it is moving. The amount of kinetic energy an object has depends on its mass and on its speed and velocity.

Q

What is work?

A

When a force moves it’s point of application a certain distance, we say that work is done.

I.e the amount of energy changed from one force to another.

16
Q

How would you measure your own power?

A

Measure the weight of the person using a neutron balance. Start the stopwatch as the person starts to run up the stairs. Stop the timer when they reach the top. Measure the height.

17
Q

How would you measure the power of an electric motor.

A

Time for motor to raise mass measured using stopwatch

height measured using metre stick

Mass is used to calculate the weight (w=mg)

18
Q

What is efficiency?

A

The ratio of the useful output to the imput

19
Q

What is the equation for efficiency?

A

. Desired output
Efficiency = ———————
. input

20
Q

How is potential energy calculated with kinetic energy?

A

P.e. = k.e1 - k.e2
