Energy Flashcards
What is the unit for energy?
Joules
What are the different types of energy?
Gravitational potential energy Elastic potential energy (e.g. rubber ball) Kinetic energy Heat Light Sound Electrical Chemical (e.g. battery) Nuclear Magnetic
What is the principal of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another.
What do you call a device which transfers energy from one form to another?
Transducer
What are some examples of non renewable energy resources?
Coal
Oil
Gas
Nuclear
What are some examples of renewable energy resources?
Wind Solar Hydroelectric Tidal Wave Geothermal
What is gravitational potential energy?
This is the energy an object has because of its position in a gravitational field. The amount of gravitational potential energy an object has depends on its mass, its height above the ground and the strength of the gravitational field.
What is the equation to find potential energy?
p.e. = mgh
What is kinetic energy?
The energy an object has because it is moving. The amount of kinetic energy an object has depends on its mass and on its speed and velocity.
Wha5 is the formula for kinetic energy?
k.e. = 1/2mv2
What is work?
When a force moves it’s point of application a certain distance, we say that work is done.
I.e the amount of energy changed from one force to another.
What is the equation used to calculate work?
W=Fxd
What is power?
The power of something is how quickly it can do a certain amount of work
What is the equation for power?
Fxd
