Mortars should be able to fire 1/2 to 2/3rds of their range to the front of forward elements of the supported friendly element

What are the 3 types of position occupations
Deliberate
Hasty
Emergency
What’s the main difference between hasty and deliberate occupation of position
Both are planned positions, but deliberate gives the advance party more time to prepare for the mortar team
What’s the difference between emergency and hasty or deliberate occupation
Emergency occupation occurs when the mortar team gets a call for fire while moving, it’s not a planned position. Considered a “hip shot”

On order
Predetermined event
What are the 2 reasons an entire mortar platoon can displace at the same time
Little likelihood of enemy attack
Artillery can provide adequate support
