Morphology (Part 1) Flashcards
Define a gyrus
a prominent landmark of the cerebral surface
Define a sulcus.
The valley between two gyri
What is the significance of the central sulcus?
Separates the frontal and parietal lobes.
What is the significance of the lateral (sylvian) fissure?
Separates the Parietal and Frontal lobes from the Temporal lobes
What separates the occipital lobe from the parietal and temporal lobes?
An arbitrary line drawn connecting the preoccipital notch and the marginal end of the parieto-occipital sulcus.
Dissection/retraction of the frontal, parietal, and temporal opercula reveals what?
a lateral view of the normally hidden insula and circular sulcus.
What divides the parietal and occipital lobes?
parieto-occipital sulcus
The cingulate sulcus separates what?
The frontal and parietal lobes from the limbic lobe
What is the location of the limbic lobe?
Superior part sits between the corpus callosum and cingulate sulcus.
In regards to the inferior aspect of the brain, what occupy the base of the diencephalon?
- Mammillary bodies
- Stalk of the pituitary
In regards to the inferior surface of the brain, what structures are prominent on the ventral medulla oblongata, caudal to the pons?
- Pyramids
- Pons
What cranial nerves are associated with the Telencephalon?
CN I (Olfactory nerves)
What cranial nerves are associated with the Diencephalon?
CN II - Optic nerve
What are the structures associated with CN I found within the Telencephalon?
- Olfactory tract
- Olfactory bulb
- Olfactory cortex
What are the structures associated with CN II found within the Diencephalon?
- Optic chiasm
- Optic tract
- Lateral geniculate body
