Aim
Test the validity of the mere exposure effect.
Sample
130 undergrad psychology students, mix of genders.
Procedure
4 confederate women pretended to be student in course (0, 5, 10, 15) sessions (determined randomly).
Arrived few mins before, walked and sat in front where all could see. Listen, take notes, did not interact with anyone.
End of semester
- shown slideshow with the 4 women
- rank 1-7 for several traits (like attractiveness, intelligence, success, popularity)
Results and conclusion
Male and female responded similarly so sex was not confounding variable.

5 - 3.88
10 - 4.25
15 - 4.38
Mere exposure effect can be observed under naturalistic conditions. More classes attended, ranked as having more positive traits.
