Determine if there was a correlation between one’s attachment style and their satisfaction in romantic relationships.
Sample

- self selected
- 91% homosexual
- 42% married
- mean age 34-36
Procedure
questionnaire ‘love quiz’ in newspaper
- 3 parts (focus on one important past/present romantic relationship) :
56 questions about most important relationship (likert scale),
specific questions about nature of relationship,
and childhood relationship with parents (and theirs with each other)
Results and Conclusion
56% secure - happier and more trusting, had longer relationships
25% avoidant - fear of intimacy and jealous
19% ambivalent - obsession and jealousy
2 insecure believe love doesn’t last
best predictor was perception of parents relationship (with them and each other)
Some correlation between childhood attachment style and quality of adult romantic relationship. Warned about drawing too many conclusions (overly deterministic).
